Steinbach Selected to Participate in the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP), Boosting the economy via Workforce Development
Steinbach Economic Development Corporation (SED), the leading and driving force behind economic growth and workforce development, is proud to announce the approval by the federal government for Steinbach to participate in the Rural Community Immigration Pilot Program, a key initiative aimed at tackling workforce shortages and fueling economic growth in Southeast Manitoba.
Last week, Immigration, Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC) launched the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP). Steinbach is 1 of 14 communities in Canada approved to participate in RCIP.
RCIP replaces RNIP, Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot, which had 11 Canadian communities participating. “The Rural Immigration Pilot is a game-changer for Steinbach,” said Michelle Bezditny, Director of Steinbach Economic Development Corporation. “By strategically aligning regional workforce needs with local, domestic and international talent, SED is securing the future of our economy by creating opportunities for businesses to grow and expand. This initiative supports long-term economic resilience by attracting and retaining highly skilled, top-tier talent, committed to building their future in Steinbach and the surrounding area”.
Steinbach is already recognized as one of the fastest-growing economic centres in Manitoba, and this latest addition, Rural Community Immigration Pilot, will further solidify Steinbach’s role as a hub for skilled talent and business innovation. RCIP is projected to inject much needed expertise into Steinbach’s key industries, while delivering a direct net economic benefit of over $12 million, plus additional ripple effects boosting consumer spending, housing demand, and general local business activity.
SED continues to work closely with IRCC, community stakeholders, and local businesses to ensure the success of this initiative. As the driving force behind economic development, SED remains committed to fostering a dynamic and inclusive business environment for the entire region.
